Subreddit News, Tournaments, and some CCU Mythbusting
Greetings Warriors! Now that the (green) smoke has settled from the Y4S2 and the CCU landing, we thought now would be a good time to do a quick subreddit news post, as there are a few things to catch you up on - before Y4S3 arrives and there is more news to take the sticky post slot!
Next, I’d like to welcome two new mods to the team, u/SenpaiKaplan (SenKa) and u/DaniUsagi. I’m sure regular readers will recognise these two, as they are both frequent contributors to the sub, with many interesting tech posts between them. We’ve been seeing a big increase in viewers and posts since the CCU, and their help and expertise will be much appreciated! Please give them a warm welcome!
Poll Posts have been disabled
Since Reddit added the new Poll option on posts, we have seen a big influx of these posts, and unfortunately 90% of them have been very low effort, normally just a title and a binary choice, which we have had to remove. Adding a “no low-effort polls” clause to rule 6 hasn’t helped with that situation, so we have decided to disable the option entirely. If you do still want to do poll the readers here as part of a discussion post, or want to gather data to find opinions on a specific question, you are welcome to include links to external survey sites (like surveymonkey or google forms) in text posts - we are only trying to cut down on low-effort posts, not genuine use of poll for interesting content.
Info Hub Update
The Info Hub has been updated with all the changes from the CCU and the follow-up patches, including the 3 new executions, new punishes, balance information on each character, and an All Attack Properties sheet which allows you to compare attacks across the cast, and contains lots of data that doesn’t fit on the individual character sheets (like hit reactions for example). We are still in the process of revamping the General Info sheet, and an update to the Viability Tables is also in the works, now that there has been a decent amount of time since the CCU for the meta to stabilise. Also planned is addition of frame advantage sections on some moves for which it is particularly relevant. If you spot any errors, outdated info, or have requests for information you’d like to see included in the hub, please let us know by commenting on the hub itself, messaging me or the mod team as a whole, or contacting one of us on discord.
Some CCU Mythbusting
Since the CCU update, I have seen a few persistent bits of misinformation floating about, and I’d like to take this opportunity to bust a few of these myths:
The CCU did NOT remove delayed attacks. The changes to indicator speeds with the CCU made it so that delaying or buffering attacks do not make a difference to the length of animation + indicator shown to the opponent - but it did not remove the ability to delay attacks. You can still delay an attack within the input window, which can be used to give attacks different parry timings, or to better dodge incoming attacks in the case of dodge attacks. The best way to demonstrate this is to go into the training arena as JJ, and do the light -> light chain, first inputting the attacks as fast as you can, and then leaving as big a gap between the lights as possible.
X Hero’s damage has NOT been “gutted”. In particular, Peacekeeper... In the CCU, attack damage has been mostly standardised - based on the speed of the attack, and its position in chain, and very little else. For example, almost every 800ms opener heavy does 24 damage, almost every 400ms chain light does 9 damage, and so on. This means for some characters that previously had greatly overtuned damage, their damage has come down to the average, and for others, their damage has stayed the same or even gone up in places. The one category of attacks that have not had any changes to their damage are bleed attacks, and so, Peacekeeper’s heavies have been reduced so that combined with the guaranteed 1 + 10 bleed from Deep Gouge, they do the standard damage. Yes, it uses a bit more stamina than a regular heavy, and yes, bleed damage has its own downsides (and upsides) compared to immediate damage, but to say that Peacekeeper’s damage has been disproportionately lowered is just false. The frame advantage on Deep Gouge is considerable, so it behaves almost like it chains anyway. If anything, her damage is higher than average, thanks to her GB triple stab punish being unchanged at 38 total damage, which is way higher than the standard GB punish of 24, and closer to the level of OOS punishes.
You get frame advantage after being hit by chain lights and light chain finishers, NOT all light attacks that do not chain. I have seen many people saying that Warmonger “breaks the rules” of frame advantage by having advantage on her bash follow-up, and the same for Warlord. However those attacks are not part of a normal attack chain, and therefore do not fall under the same frame advantage rules. This also makes sense if you step back and think about it - the changes were implemented specifically to weaken “light spam”, and special bash follow-ups cannot be “light spam” because they cannot be used as part of Light->Light chains. There currently is one character who does break the light attack frame advantage rules - and that is Highlander’s chain lights, which do have frame advantage on hit. As of the patch on the 27th, Shugoki’s light attacks no longer have frame advantage on hit - and your light attack will hit before his next one. But the hyperarmour on them does still allow him to trade with your light attack.
And finally, a mention of “light spam” - no, the CCU did NOT “buff light spam”. The CCU has certainly buffed light attacks, but it has also specifically nerfed light attack spam. To be pedantic - “spam” is when someone repeats the same attack over and over, and this is what the devs have taken from the complaints about “light spam”. The CCU has given more tools to allow you to defend against repeated light attacks: dodging out of Light -> Light chains, and granting frame advantage to the defender after light finishers. Additionally, the damage nerfs, and stamina changes have made it so that you will survive for longer against an opponent who is spamming lights. To be honest, I think it is quite impressive that the devs have managed to improve light attacks in general, whilst still nerfing the specific use-case of “spamming” them. The continuing complaints seem to be because for a significant fraction of the community, “spam” just means “doing anything more than once per fight, especially if I lose to it”. And if that’s what you are actually complaining about, honestly, there are no balance changes the devs could ever make that will make you happy, short of your own personal win button. There is still one thing you can do though: Click here
That’s all Warriors, thanks for reading, and see you on the battlefield!

A little more than half of our participants listen to "pop" music more than 50% of the time. We use phones as our primary source of listening tool, followed by computer, radio, music player, and others. We buy our music primarily as digital downloads, but plenty of us (919, 46%) buy CDs, and the cool kids (760, 38.1%) buy vinyl. Spotify came out on top as the primary streaming service with 2,160 participants using it, followed by YouTube at 1,605 participants. (This and the above were multiple answer options). Apple Music came in with 549 participants, barely beating out Soundcloud who had 469!
Miscellaneous
We're suckers for Pitchfork! 73.8% of participants have friends they can comfortably discuss music with. We are also a part of other communities on Last.fm and Discord! Though, 875 people said they are not part of other communities.

Practicing SR since July 2017; finally conquered Nocturnal Emissions for 3 Whole Months using Subliminals
2 accounts got shadowbanned for uploading this post. Spam filter kept on removing it on Semenretention. Messaged the moderators for help, but they didn't care. Takes less than 3 minutes to approve a post from the spam folder. No idea if they read this post. First time making a Reddit post. Terminology: Wet dream/WD – sexual dream causing semen emission while sleeping Nocturnal Emission/NE – semen emission occurring while sleeping even without dreaming Semen-retention/SR streak – avoiding porn, masturbation, and ejaculation whether conscious or unconscious Nofap Hardmode – avoiding porn, masturbation, and conscious ejaculation. Unconscious ejaculation/WD is considered fine. As the title suggests, my current streak started in the middle of June 2017. Haven’t watched any porn or masturbated in 3 years. Experienced almost all the benefits such as massive attraction (men, women, children), an aura/energy surrounding me, enhanced charisma, less need for sleep, insane levels of energy, drive, and motivation, zero anxiety or fear, massive confidence occasionally bordering on arrogance, increased manifestation/LOA, people admiring/respecting me for no reason, online attraction, less procrastination, better athletic performance, greater creativity/intelligence, the desire to live a purposeful life, greater emphasis on spirituality, and much much more. Could probably write several posts just on the benefits themselves. Only thing that didn’t improve was my skin, which was later fixed using subliminals. It’s been a long journey, so I’ll start with background information, and later elaborate on how I managed to go from nocturnal emissions every 5 days (avg) to having a perfect SR streak for 3 months. Used to watch anime which led to hentai (2013), and eventually western/japanese porn. Don’t even bother to search these terms on Google. It’s not worth it. Thankfully, those days are long behind me. As a side-note, I discovered the nofap/semen-retention subreddit in November 2017. Didn’t even know about SR before that. I was raised a Catholic in a fairly religious family. Always started various streaks, and eventually broke them due to boredom/emotional coping/curiosity about new videos. Thankfully, I got good grades, read books, and was interested in self-development, but all that time spent on porn was a complete waste. Assuming I spent at least 2 hours everyday for 4 years (1460 days), it amounts to 122 complete days or around 4 months in total. It’s pretty sad on reflection, but at least the experience is now absorbed, and I can write this post. On June 2017, after summer break started and final exams were over, I decided to permanently quit this habit. Downloaded an application called Cold Turkey and completely blocked all websites I used to visit. Now use Leechblock, which is available on most browsers (also use it to block/restrict access to non-NSFW websites which impair productivity like ESPN). Started 30 minutes of daily meditation (mindfulness + metta). Still continue the habits to this day, although the length is increased to 1 hour. Read Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana and Lovingkindness by Sharon Salzberg for instructions. Have re-read these books multiple times. Mindfulness will allow you to be self-aware of your mental conditioning, while metta (feeling compassion for yourself, a friend, neutral person, and enemy) can remove thoughts of lust and fundamentally alter your mental programming. Compassion is a very powerful exercise. Read “The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion by Christopher Germer” while you’re at it and learn tonglen. All of these books contain zero fluff, and are invaluable reads. Started drinking 16 glasses of water (thought it would help skin, but helped in other ways), and doing 100 pushups + 100 sit-ups everyday. Increased it to 200 pushups + 200 sit-ups after 1 month. After 2 months, I made a decent amount of gains (SR helps), and people started asking me workout tips and what gym I go to. Had a Kindle Paperwhite, which is frankly one of my most valued possessions. Still works perfectly fine after 5 years, and costs only $130. Buy one now. Read a lot of books mostly consisting of biographies/spirituality/practical social skills/800+ page novels for around 6 hours per day. Still try to read for at least 15 minutes/1 chapter even when extremely busy. Will post a small booklist at the end of this post. You can upload books to it for free if you lack money. Visit “gen.lib.rus.ec” without quotes, download the ebook in epub/mobi format, open it with Calibre (https://calibre-ebook.com/), and send it to Kindle using USB. Knowledge is an investment that produces continuous returns. Warren Buffett spends 80% of his time just reading! and takes action based on that knowledge. Even managed to have the motivation to learn Japanese by joining a foreign language exchange website. People, especially women, accepted and sent a lot of invitations to have a conversation; didn’t realize online attraction was due to SR back then. None of us showed our faces, so my physical appearance had nothing to do with it. From experience, the best way to learn a language was to make a phrase sheet with the most common phrases/questions, such as “okay”, “that’s awesome”, “what is that word in English/Japanese?” Basically a human AI bot. Don’t waste time trying to learn how to write the alphabet, although my primary purpose was to learn how to speak. Google Translate is good enough to understand the pronunciation. I learned Japanese primarily by watching Terrace House. First watched the episode with subtitles, then re-watched it without, while simultaneously writing all the connectives/conversational phrases. You can try unique methods to remember, but brute-force memorization/review worked the best. Never tried Anki since it was cumbersome to use. For the accent, the best way is to watch Japanese people trying to speak English, and try to mirror their accent as much as possible. It honestly helps. After 3 months, I could have a full 1 hour conversation in Japanese with a native speaker without looking at any notes. I wasn’t “fluent” (still stuttered and made mistakes), but it was a huge amount of progress for starting from scratch. Eventually after 6 months, I gave up practicing/speaking the language. I was mainly trying to fulfill a childhood fantasy, and I’m glad I tried since I learned a lot from it and got to talk with interesting people. But in reality, I stopped watching anime, and honestly never needed to speak Japanese in real-life. Now I barely remember any of the words, except a few basic phrases. Could probably last 30 seconds of full conversation at best. So, everything was going great until December 2017. During this time period, I probably had wet dreams/nocturnal emissions every 1 – 2 months. Barely felt much difference since there was a decent time interval between emissions. Drank 2 glasses of water everyday before bed, slept on my stomach, and ate spicy food (practices that cause nocturnal emissions), but was perfectly fine. However in December I started having emissions every 2 weeks. Initially didn’t care about it. In January it started happening every 1 week. Nothing really changed in my life during this time to cause emissions to increase. Then it started happening every 5 days, every 3 days, sometimes even 2 days in a row! Most of you will have no idea how terrible it feels to be on top of the world, and then suddenly crash down. The difference between living life with/without SR benefits is night and day. Even after sleeping 10 hours, I used to feel completely exhausted. People ignored me, or worse started “joking” around me. Complete disrespect by friends, family, and acquaintances. No energy/motivation to do anything. Constant brain fog, could barely concentrate. Felt even worse than my porn days when I ejaculated everyday. Voice completely shot, started feeling anxious about oral presentations for no reason, when I always excelled. Felt like my soul was dying. Those were really dark times. People started saying I “changed”, and started pointing out and constantly magnifying my flaws. It’s strange how people exaggerate our skills/talents on SR, while they completely ignore them post WD/ejaculation, and focus only on your flaws/mistakes. It makes you lose trust in everyone around you, as if all of them are energy vampires who only like you due to SR. I grew desperate. During this whole time I meditated, practiced no lust/no arousal as best as possible since July 2017, yet emissions increased massively in frequency. Some occurred due to sexual dreams, but most were nocturnal emissions. Thought I had a UTI at first, and went to a general practitioner. He didn’t seem very reliable, so I went to a prominent urologist. Did all sorts of tests, paid a good amount of money, and the doctor said everything was fine. Having nocturnal emissions every 5 days was perfectly normal at my age. Encouraged me to masturbate regularly if it became an inconvenience :) So medical science obviously failed. Started following all the tips/methods in this subreddit, and believe me I tried almost everything no matter how uncomfortable or time-consuming. Omad, avoid food/water before bed, vegetarianism, tantric meditation, different diets, various sleeping positions, no/increased meditation before bed, no/more exercise, yogic exercises, qigong, some tips mentioned by Soaring Eagle, prayed to God. None of them worked. The only method I didn’t try extensively were kegels. Initially tried a normal + reverse kegel routine, then found an article by coincidence on this subreddit about someone who permanently damaged their penis from doing kegels. Immediately stopped, thank you to that person for sharing your experience. It’s as if the universe was looking out for me. Best to avoid such risky methods even if you’re desperate. Currently sleep on my back since it avoids any "accidental physical stimulation" from occurring. So this nocturnal emission phenomena continued for over a year. Some methods worked better than others, while for some, I wasn’t sure if it was merely the placebo effect. In mid-2019 I came across subliminal videos (finally the good part!) on YouTube. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0W5AB1sGr0) This video explains it more thoroughly, but basically you convert affirmations (sentences like “I am happy/smart/handsome”) into audio using text-to-speech software and reprogram your subconscious mind. Tried a beauty subliminal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEXaAsm-Iys) as a joke, but the next day I noticed changes in my facial structure. Listened for an hour the first day, which was easy given the music. You have no idea how amazing it feels to know that you can control your reality just by using your mind. Completely magical. Supposedly it works due to the Law of Attraction; you can find out more by reading/watching “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, and later reading all the books by Neville Goddard. Started using a skin subliminal as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqi8Q80pspk and later moved onto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COxz8hvl14Y ), and now my skin is completely normal. Visited prominent US dermatologists, tried all sorts of acne medicine including Accutane, and even did SR, yet none of them worked. Skin was pretty terrible, and I was glad it got fixed. Took around 4 months of daily listening although it can be shortelonger depending on your belief, blockages, and levels of positivity. There’s a CIA document on holographic universes, astral projection, time travel, and psychic powers if you need scientific validation: https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP96-00788R001700210016-5.pdf Disclaimer: Although there can be bad subliminal makers, they are very rare, and there has been only 2 of them in the history of the community. Someone named MindPower and Rose subliminals. The vast majority (99%) put positive affirmations. It’s best that you verify by checking all the comments, seeing their subscriber count, general personality, etc, but ultimately there’s no guarantee. The only way to make sure the affirmations are 100% positive and safe are to make them yourself or use a subliminal that blocks negative affirmations. One thing to note is that physical change (biokinesis; search that term)/spiritual subliminals utilize the prana in your body to a certain extent to make changes. It makes sense since physical change is essentially a psychic poweenergy work. So your SR benefits/aura might temporarily decrease. Hydration is also recommended, and you will notice feeling thirsty. Personally drink 20 glasses of water everyday. Obviously, my interest now turned towards using subliminals to cure nocturnal emissions. Unfortunately there’s a huge lack of subliminals regarding semen-retention or those targeted towards nocturnal emissions. Initially bought a subliminal using a paid request (you pay a subliminal maker for a specialized subliminal), but it didn’t work that well. Desired to be permanently free of nocturnal emissions, or at least reduce the frequency to once a month. So I decided to make my own subliminal. The affirmations will be posted below, and this is how I eventually cured my nocturnal emissions. Steps on how to make your own subliminal:
Write all the affirmations in a word document and save it.
Download text-to-speech software like Balabolka (http://www.cross-plus-a.com/balabolka.htm) and output the audio file in wav format (you want both uncompressed + lossless)
Optional but recommended; download an audio editor like Audacity (https://www.audacityteam.org/), and fast-forward the audio as much as possible using the “Change Tempo” effect. Personally I speed the audio to one second and then loop it 1000x. Continue the process as much as possible, but never make the audio length less than 1 second. Some subliminal makers make their subliminals even more powerful by creating multiple audio streams of their affirmations using different voices, merging all the voices together, and speeding them up. It’s called layering. Why super-sped affirmations work better can be somewhat explained by this article (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/sensorium/201812/experiments-suggest-humans-can-directly-observe-the-quantum), but science still doesn’t have all the answers. Will take time.
Affirmations + Audio Link:https://mega.nz/foldeWcwhhAia#RmD8e0I3uzjyeDdW22wEHg Listened to this personal subliminal for 1 hour everyday for an entire month. Still listen just to be safe. Took months of testing and editing affirmations to make it perfect. Experienced massive sexual dreams on certain days, more than normal, and found out that entities could be responsible. Try to avoid this subreddit as well, since reading the posts can trigger memories. More energetically sensitive now, and sometimes there’s a lot of low-vibrational energy. On a side-note, porn cripples your aura and invites negative entities (https://www.awakeningstaryoga.com/blog/expanding-away-from-porn-aura). Non-subliminal solutions:
The entire channel is a gem; these were some of the best. Have used them for a few months and feel much lighter and peaceful; experienced only headaches due to subconscious absorbing the affirmations, but zero negative effects. Advice: Remember to immediately download any subliminal video you find that is useful in wav format (https://www.savethevideo.com/download). Subliminal channels are sometimes deleted by YouTube (spam filter) or the creators themselves. Waited 3 whole months before deciding to make a Reddit post to make sure the method was 100% foolproof. Remember many people offering solutions in the past, yet 1 month later they would have another wd/nocturnal emission. The first month there was a lot of fear. Will I have a wet dream/nocturnal emission tonight? Was so traumatized it was difficult getting to sleep every night. After the 2nd month, I experimented with sleeping on my stomach and eating/drinking before bed. Nothing happened. Stopped recently to stay careful. After 2 years of suffering, this is a method that has worked. Try and see for yourself. Present day: How do you feel now? Some days it’s meh (due to flatline) like today; on other days I feel divine. No idea why flatline still occurs. Have regained all the benefits, feel love and happiness all the time. Experience intense states of bliss in meditation more frequently, although it’s just a distraction. Religiously/Spiritually I’ve moved from Christianity to Buddhism/Advaita Vedanta/parts of New Age. Found them more practical and useful in life. Was inspired to aim for spiritual enlightenment after reading “The 3 pillars of Zen” by Philip Kapleau. Read it, it might change your life. Have attended a number of meditation retreats now, along with 10-day ones. Everyone reading this post should try it. Understood how much our mental programming defined us, and that we aren’t are thoughts. Our childhood traumas define so much of our habitual reactions. Realized its okay to feel bored rather than chasing after constant stimulation. Even attended a Jhana retreat, which is exclusive for people who have attended prior retreats. Entered intense states of meditative absorption, understood the permeability/impermanence of reality, and had all sorts of mystical experiences. Experienced past lives; can confirm my mind did not make it up, since it’s an experience you can constantly replicate using the same methods. Before attempting such methods, you need to have the ability to sit down and meditate continuously for at least 3 hours. If you live in the US, attend IMS (Insight Meditation Society) or any prominent Vipassana/Theravada related retreat. Zen is a valid form of enlightenment, but it personally felt unstructured. Gave up music, took time since I was convinced it was needed for creativity. Instead, it was just a substitute source of dopamine and a way to avoid my emotions. Have much less brain fog after quitting. Only communicate using regular phone calls these days, which no one uses, and Snapchat/WhatsApp for texting. Avoid stories, waste of time. Instagram/TwitteFacebook are a waste of time unless you are using it for business purposes. The only social media you really need is LinkedIn. Women: You’ll learn more about them by reading romantic novels, Korean mangas, and watching Kdramas then reading all that seduction/red pill stuff. Focus on general charisma (men and women) instead of a specific gender. Read “The Charisma Myth” by Olivia Fox Cabane; it’s the most practical book on social skills I have ever read, and possibly the most life-changing as well. Teaches you self-awareness, applies Buddhist psychology to social interaction. Used to train executives in Google, read it now (and do all the exercises). The bibliography sent me on a rabbit hole that made me read ton of books on psychotherapy, meditation, mindfulness, and Buddhism; this was before SR. Inspired me to practice meditation, although the habit only became regular after SR. Read books such as Crucial Conversations by Al Switzer, Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, How to Talk so Kids will Listen by Adele Faber (works very well in general since even adults have childhood programming, and can act like children), Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss (FBI's chief international hostage and kidnapping negotiator from 2003 to 2007), Getting More by Stuart Diamond (trains negotiators at Google), and Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff (more theoretical but useful). Also read The Definitive Book of Body Language by Allan Pease and What Every Body is Saying by Joe Navarro. These are all books that will greatly improve your human interactions and contain limited fluff. Have re-read all of these books in difficult times, and they have never let me down. You should read it as well. Even if you become a monk, there’s lots of social infighting even in monasteries. Highly-developed social skills are invaluable whenever you are dealing with individuals. Read “How to make friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie once in a while, since most forget to apply his “basic” advice. Learned a lot about oral presentations by watching Alan Shore on Boston Legal (TV show). Current position in life? Studying for a bachelor’s degree. My family is financially well-off, and my father is paying for my college tuition and dorm. Scholarships aren’t available for all income levels. Although I come from “privilege”, the above information can help anyone regardless of their financial position. We live in an era where information is accessible to all social classes, so excuses aren’t that relevant. If you’re practicing SR, you are already 20 steps closer to success. The tips above can be applied for free as long as you have a computesmartphone. Read books starting from today, knowledge is a source of power. People spend so much time reading the news, scrolling social media feeds, reacting to comments, chatting about useless things with friends, binging shows on Netflix, browsing YouTube/Reddit, that time quietly passes by. Time is the most valuable commodity you have; don’t waste such a limited resource on things that will contribute nothing towards your purpose in life. Once it’s spent, you can never get it back. Personally, I schedule the next day before going to bed. Leisure, Reading, Schoolwork, Meditation, everything is mapped out perfectly. Try to eliminate habits that just waste time and stick to your schedule perfectly (working on it myself). If you feel tired after work/studying, take a nap or meditate instead of receiving even more stimulation from videogames, YouTube, or other artificial dopamine sources. Try NoSurf.

For biographies, read those of presidents and important leaders. Also about famous/successful individuals. Read all of Ron Chernow’s books. Abuse the Amazon Search Engine and look through their categories. Reading biographies can fundamentally enhance your worldview so you realize that real-life issues are much more nuanced and gray rather than black and white. Also shows how successful people deal with difficult crises and their perspective on life. Especially for public policy. If a President implements an economic policy that has short-term gains, but long-term loss, he has a greater chance of being re-elected. However, short-term loss in favor of long-term gain is the correct policy. Employ critical-thinking! Avoid cable news even if you need to stay informed. Don’t even have a television in my house. Unnecessary. Just read 2 – 3 reputable news sources for 20 minutes max. Sometimes I even avoid the news since there’s too much negativity. https://www.reddit.com/kundalini/comments/1unyph/a_tantric_perspective_on_the_use_of_sexual_energy/ (tantric meditation technique that actually works; you are supposed to do it for 1 hour. Optional.) https://www.reddit.com/kundalini/comments/2zn8ev/grounding_201_two_effective_quick_methods/ (grounding method after doing the tantric meditation) Avoid learning Mantak Chia’s techniques from a book, since some have suffered side-effects to their energetic/biological body. Zero advice for those practicing NEO. Must be hard. Not sure about women, since SR streak is more important. Don’t pick a partner to fulfill some kind of emotional void, or due to societal programming where women are held to be the ultimate goal. Spiritual Enlightenment is the ultimate goal now, but even enlightened people need money for food and shelter. Vent Tw dysphoria, legal discrimination and the census
I'm just scared tbh. The census is going to start asking people what their "sex at birth" is and it's going to allow them to create a list of trans people in NZ by name and address. They also ask about gender but they use "male/female" which is incorrect language and binary and ugh There have already been data leaks of other"confidential" information the govt holds (one by a racist who wanted to prove he wasn't racist by leaking names and adresses of covid patients because they "didn't sound like Kiwi names" )-how does stats nz know it won't happen again ? How do they know a right wing govt or bad actor won't use it as a hit list Also I hate being categorised by my "birth sex" it feels like being misgendered it feels like the govt doesn't respect me as a person and only cares about what reproductive organs I have. I don't understand why they can't have "what's your gender? Man or woman or another gender with a space to write and a prefer not to answer option and then an opt in " are you trans" with "yes/no" that way trans people wouldn't be outed in refusing to answer . All of this and my dysphoria on top is killing me -i can't go overseas l for affordable top surgery so I have to try to get funding but there is NO public funding according to my dr so I might have to go private and that's going to be at least ten grand ande idk how I'm going to afford it and future stuff or if everything will just be locked down because of covid. M still working full-time and I'm constantly exhausted Tried to post in a thread here and got attacked for responding to someone saying "this" to agree with then making my point but they didn't get it and got angry at me for replying to them rather than the person above them . I just I can't even find a community here I feel like any moment if I make a mistake I'll be shouted down and harassed until I stop talking about my experiences
This article provides insights into the ethnicity of people employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s publicly-funded scientific workforce, with a particular focus on Māori and Pasifika scientists. We show that between 2008 and 2018, Māori and Pasifika scientists were severely under-represented in Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities and crown-research institutes. Despite espousals by these institutions of valuing diversity, te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori research, there have been very little changes in the overall percentage of Māori and Pasifika scientists employed for a period of at least 11 years. Notably, one university reported having not employed a single Māori or Pasifika academic in their science department from 2008 to 2018. We highlight the urgent need for institutions to improve how they collect and disseminate data that speaks to the diversity of their employees. We present data that illustrate that universities and crown-research institutes are failing to build a sustainable Māori and Pasifika scientific workforce and that these institutions need to begin to recruit, retain and promote Māori and Pasifika scientists.
Introduction
In 2018, Dr Megan Woods (Minister of Research, Science and Innovation) launched the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) diversity in science statement, which states that ‘Diversity is vital for our science system to realise its full potential’ (MBIE 2018). Whilst this statement is a step towards raising awareness of the importance of diversity in science it needs to be followed by institutional changes, targeted programmes and directed responses from institutions. A vital component of achieving the aspirations espoused in this statement includes open reporting on diversity of ‘applicants, award holders, and advisory, assessment and decision making bodies’ (MBIE 2018). In two recent papers, McAllister et al. (2019) and Naepi (2019) spoke to the lack of diversity in Aotearoa New Zealand 1 ’s eight universities and provided evidence of the severe under-representation of Māori and Pasifika scholars, who comprise 16.5% and 7.5% respectively of the total population of Aotearoa. The authors showed that Māori and Pasifika comprise 4.8% and 1.7% respectively of academics, despite the espousals by universities of valuing diversity and their obligations to equity as outlined in te Tiriti o Waitangi (McAllister et al. 2019; Naepi 2019). The data used in these two studies, obtained from the Ministry of Education (MoE), provided information on the ethnicity of academic staff university wide and was not disaggregated by faculty. Consequently, data on the number of Māori and Pasifika academics in each faculty or department is currently not openly available. Previous research has shown that very few Māori academics exist outside of Māori departments and it remains difficult to access quantitative data on their lived experience as universities continue to silence reports (Kidman et al. 2015; UoO date unknown). To ensure that the aspirations championed within MBIE’s diversity statement can be met, we first need open and accurate reporting on the diversity of people employed within Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific workforce and there is currently a significant gap of openly available data that investigate this. Some annual reports and equity profiles of crown-research institutes (CRIs) and universities do contain selected ethnicity data (i.e. MWLR 2018; UoA 2018). However, these reports do not always present data in a meaningful and consistent way and are not always publically available. For example, the University of Otago’s annual report does not contain any information on the ethnicity of staff and instead focuses only on gender of staff and the ethnicity of students (UoO 2018). Instead, the ethnicity data for staff is presented in the equity report, which is only available to staff and access must be requested from the Head of Organisational Development (UoO date unknown). A survey of Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientists and technologists in 2008 provides the most recent quantitative indication of the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific workforce, despite being conducted 12 years ago (Sommer 2010). The author indicated that there was very little change in ethnicity of Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific workforce between the 1996 and 2008 surveys, with ‘European’ scientists making up 82.3% and 80.9% respectively (Sommer 2010). According to the author, there was a ‘modest increase’ in Māori scientists from 0.7% (1996) to 1.7% (2008) and this increase ‘represents a glimmer of success for those who have sought to develop policies to bring more Māori into the science and technology workforce’ (Sommer 2010, p. 10). However, an increase of 1% over a period of 15 years (i.e. an average increase of 0.07% per year) should be viewed as a significant failure. The percentage of Pasifika scientists also increased very slightly from 0.5% in 1996 to 0.6% in 2010 (Sommer 2010). McKinley (2002, p. 109) provided an insight into the extremely low numbers of Māori women employed by CRIs in 1998: ‘Of the 3,839 people employed by seven Crown Research Institutes (CRIs) in New Zealand, 57 women or approximately 1.5% of the total identified as Māori women. At the time these data were collected in 1998 there were no Māori women in management positions, two were categorised as scientists, 15 as science technicians, and 40 as ‘support’ staff that includes cafeteria staff, administration staff and cleaners’ The data presented by both McKinley (2002) and Sommer (2010) highlight the urgent need for institutions and government to move away from ‘business as usual’ and make a serious commitment to firstly collecting data on diversity, openly and transparently presenting it and secondly increasing the hiring, promoting and retention of Māori and Pasifika scientists. The present paper aims to begin to address the gap in knowledge by collating data and investigating how diverse Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific workforce is. An intersectional lens must be applied when thinking critically about diversity and equity, however policies, actions and research often privilege gender (i.e. Bhopal and Henderson 2019; Brower and James 2020) over ethnicity whilst ignoring other intersectional identities that go beyond white, cis women. Here, we focus on the intersectional identities of Māori and Pasifika scientists, while acknowledging that people who have other intersectional identities including those with disabilities, LGBTQIA, non-binary and women of colour are likely to be disproportionately affected and disadvantaged within Aotearoa New Zealand’s science system, which like universities, was arguably created by and made for white, cis men (Ahmed 2012; Osei-Kofi 2012; Naepi et al. 2017; Akenahew and Naepi 2015). This paper examines the current diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific workforce, with a particular focus on Māori and Pasifika. We will address the following questions:
How many Māori and Pasifika scientists are employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities and CRIs?
How has the percentage of Māori and Pasifika scientists in these institutions changed between 2008 and 2018?
Methods
Data collection
Data was requested from universities and CRIs by emailing key individuals within each organisation in 2019. Data from 2008 to 2018 on the percentage of scientists, relative to both the total headcount and the total number of full-time equivalents (FTEs) for each recorded ethnicity employed was requested from CRIs and universities. Both the nature of responses to this request and the time it took to receive a response varied among institutions. Responses from institutions ranged from an openness and willingness to contribute data to this project to hostility and racist remarks. Several institutions did not respond to multiple email requests. A subsequent email sent by a Principal Advisor from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor elicited a prompt response from all remaining institutions. After initial conversations with staff from HR departments and university management, it was agreed that all institutions would remain anonymous and we believe that this contributed significantly to increasing the willingness of institutions to contribute data. Overall, data was obtained from 14 out of 15 of Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities and CRIs. At most of these institutions staff self-declare their ethnicities and are given multiple choices, where data was provided for multiple ethnicities we used the first reported ethnicity,
Data from universities
Seven out of eight universities contributed data directly to this project, whereas data for university B was extracted from annual reports. Ethnicity data in the form of FTEs and headcount data was provided by most universities. Māori and Pasifika academics are more likely to be employed on contracts of less than one FTE compared to Pākehā academics (unpublished data). We therefore present the percentage of FTEs of staff for each recorded ethnicity, rather than headcount data as it is likely to be a more accurate measure of diversity. Recorded ethnicity groups differed among some universities, mainly in the fact that some distinguished between ‘European’ and ‘NZ European/Pākehā’, whereas at others these two ethnicities were combined. It is important to note that the data from universities presented in this paper includes academic staff and excludes research staff, including post-doctoral fellows and laboratory technicians. Data on the number of scientists employed at universities also only includes scientists employed in science departments (i.e. excludes Māori scientists in health departments). However, a recent paper published by Naepi et al. (2020) showed that in 2017, there were only 55 Māori and 20 Pasifika postdoctoral fellows across all faculties in all of Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities. The number of Māori and Pasifika postdoctoral fellows employed in science faculties is, therefore, likely to be very small. Academic staff includes other academic staff, senior tutors, tutors, tutorial assistants, lecturers, senior lecturers, associate professors and professors. Previous research has shown that a large proportion of Māori and Pasifika academics are employed as tutors and other academic staff rather than in permanent senior academic positions (see Naepi 2019), so this is also likely to be the case within science faculties. Concerningly, two universities (university E and H) were unable to provide data for the requested 11-year period (i.e. from 2008 to 2018). Upon querying this with human resource (HR) departments, their reasons included but were not limited to the following:
Issues with data quality as ethnicity and nationality were incorrectly used interchangeably
Changes in HR systems
Some data (including ethnicity) are overwritten each year (i.e. so there was no historic record)
Staff ‘change their ethnicity’
Changes in the way FTEs were calculated
Data from crown-research institutes
Data, in some shape or form, was obtained from six out of seven of Aotearoa New Zealand’s CRIs. Obtaining accurate and consistent temporal data from CRIs was, despite their willingness, much more difficult than from universities. The MoE requires certain ethnicity data from universities in a particular format (see MoE date unknown), however the diversity of staff employed at Aotearoa New Zealand’s seven CRIs is currently not required by an external organisation. Most CRIs were unable to provide FTE data but were able to provide headcount data, consequently we present the headcount data in this report. Because the data from CRIs was highly variable, we were not prescriptive about how they defined a scientist, however at most institutions this included post-doctoral fellows and scientists. Data on the percentage of Māori and Pasifika scientists employed from 2008 to 2018 could only be obtained from four out of seven of the CRIs. CRI F could only provide ethnicity for staff that were recent hires from 2016 to 2018, meaning we are unable to differentiate between science and non-science staff and data on staff employed prior to 2016 was unavailable. CRI E could only provide data for 2019, the year that we had asked for it, due to their HR system overwriting data and therefore having no historical record of staff ethnicity. The ethnicity data from CRIs, with the exception of CRI B, can only be viewed as indicative due to inconsistencies in how CRIs collect data. Data from most institutions was therefore not conducive to any temporal or statistical analyses. For example, at CRI A over the 11-year period, the ethnicity categories offered to staff changed four times. Māori and Pasifika were consistently given as options, which provides some level of confidence in CRI A’s ethnicity data.
Results
Māori scientists employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities
Before even considering the data presented below, we must acknowledge and highlight that science faculties within universities are generally not safe and inclusive environments for Māori and Pasifika academic staff. Reasons for this include that being the only Indigenous person in a faculty puts that one under extreme pressure to help colleagues, indigenise curriculum, support Indigenous students while also advancing their own career (Mercier et al. 2011; Kidman et al. 2015). It is well established that the job satisfaction of Māori academics is influenced by their proximity to other Māori academics (Mercier et al. 2011; Kidman et al. 2015). The interdisciplinary work of Māori scientists also often does not align with what the academy and their Pākehā counterparts define as ‘science’ and many scholars have explored this (see for example, McKinley 2005; Mercier 2014; Hikuroa 2017). Consequently, of the few Māori scientists that exist and survive within academia, several are employed outside of science faculties (see for example, Mercier 2014). This data therefore is likely to very slightly underestimate the numbers of Māori scientists within the academy. Furthermore, in the present paper we focus on Māori and Pasifika scientists in science faculties but there will also be Māori and Pasifika scientists in social science and humanities and health faculties, which will not be captured by the data reported below. Māori are under-represented in science faculties at all of Aotearoa New Zealand’s eight universities (Table 1). University A had the highest level of representation, which may be attributed to the science faculty being combined with another discipline at this particular university (Table 1). From 2008 to 2018, University D has never employed a Māori academic in their science faculty (Table 1). Māori comprised less than 5% of the total FTEs in science faculties at all other universities between 2008 and 2018, the averages were 4.3, 1.4, 1.6, 3.7 and 0.6% respectively at University B, C, E, F and H (Table 1). Importantly, there were no significant differences between the percentage of Māori FTEs in 2008 and 2018 (paired t-test: t10 = −0.24, p = 0.82). Thus, meaning that over 11 years there has been no improvement in Māori representation in science faculties (Table 1).
Table 1. The percentage of Māori and Pasifika full-time equivalents (FTEs) of academic staff in science faculties at each of Aotearoa New Zealand’s eight universities. University A and G both have a combined faculty (i.e. science and another discipline) whereas all other universities have separate faculties and data is solely for science faculties. University E was unable to provide FTE data prior to 2011 and university H was only able to provide data from 2015.
Māori scientists employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s crown-research institutes
Promisingly, and in contrast with patterns of Māori scientists at universities the percentage of Māori scientists (i.e. of the total headcount) employed by CRIs has increased from 2008 to 2018 at half (2/4) of the CRIs that were able to provide temporal data (Table 2). At CRI A, Māori comprised 1.8% of the scientists employed in 2008 and this steadily increased to 3.8% in 2018 (Table 2). Similarly at CRI B, the percentage of Māori scientists have increased from 3.4% to 7.8% respectively (Table 2). At CRI C, Māori have comprised between 0.01% and 0.03% of scientists employed over a period of 11 years and at CRI D it has varied between 0% and 0.6% (Table 2).
Table 2. The percentage of Māori and Pasifika scientists of the total headcount employed by each of Aotearoa New Zealand’s crown-research institutes. CRI E could only provide data for 2019 and CRI F only had data for new recruits from 2016–2018. CRI G did not contribute data to this research.
CSVDisplay Table Certain CRIs are doing better than others, it is however important to note, particularly given CRIs outward espousals of commitments to and valuing ‘Māori research’ and mātauranga (i.e. GNS 2018), that Māori remain under-represented in all CRIs in Aotearoa New Zealand, including CRI A and B (Table 2). Additionally, the fact that three out of seven of the CRIs could not provide sufficient data suggests that these institutions have a lot of work to do in collecting data on the diversity of the staff that they employ.
Pasifika scientists employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities and crown-research institutes
There is currently an absence of research into the experiences of Pasifika scientists in Aotearoa-New Zealand’s science system. However like Māori scientists, Pasifika scientists are likely to be marginalised and under-valued within the current science system. Pasifika scientists in both universities and CRIs are extremely under-represented (Tables 1 and 2). Notably of the 11 institutions (inclusive of universities and CRIs) that provided data only three reported having Pasifika representation exceeding 1% of either the total headcount or total number of FTEs in more than one year (Tables 1 and 2). Four institutions (one university and three CRIs) reported having employed zero Pasifika scientists for 11 consecutive years (Tables 1 and 2). Importantly, there were no significant differences between the percentage of Pasifika FTEs in universities in 2008 and 2018 (paired t-test: t8 = 0.36, p = 0.73). Thus, meaning that over 11 years there has been no improvement in Pasifika representation in science faculties (Table 2). The patterns in the percentage of both Māori and Pasifika scientists employed at university G were very different from all other institutions (Table 1). Firstly, university G was the only university that in some years employed more Pasifika than Māori scientists (Table 1). In 2008, 7.4% of FTEs in the science faculty of university G belonged to Pasifika scientists, which was the highest recorded in all eight institutions over 11 years (Table 1). However, Pasifika scientists in this faculty had only 4.4 FTEs in 2008, meaning that 7.4% equated to five Pasifika staff (data not shown).
The diversity of scientists employed in science faculties in Aotearoa New Zealand’s universities
Between 2008 and 2018, the majority of academics in the Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Engineering and Science departments at university D were European comprising between 58.7% and 85.2% of the total FTEs (Figure 1(A)). University D distinguishes between ‘European’ and ‘New Zealand European/Pākehā’ and the data presented in Figure 1(A) suggests that not many academics in these departments associate with the latter group. Thus, suggesting that most academics employed within these departments are from overseas. In these departments (i.e. Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Engineering and Science) between 2008 and 2018 there was a consistent increase in the percentage of FTEs of Asian ethnicities (12.3% increase in Computing and Mathematical Sciences, 6.8% in Engineering, 2.4% in Science; Figure 1(A)). Figure 1. (A) The percentage of full-time equivalents (FTEs) for each recorded ethnicity in three science faculties at university D in2008 and 2018 and (B) the percentage of Māori and Pasifika FTEs in those three faculties for academic staff from 2008–2018. Note: In both the Engineering and Science departments there were no Māori or Pasifika employed between 2008 and 2018. 📷Display full size The data provided by university D clearly illustrates a severe lack of Māori and Pasifika academic staff representation in sciences faculties (Figure 1(B)). It shows that in two of the three departments, there have never been any Māori academics employed (Figure 1(B)). Furthermore, in those three departments no Pasifika academic staff have been employed in 11 years (2008–2018). Māori academics have comprised 4.1%–7.5% of the total FTEs in the Computing and Mathematical Science department (Figure 1). NZ European/Pākehā formed the majority (52.8%–63.6%) of academic staff employed in the science faculty of university B and this percentage has decreased by 11.8% between 2008 and 2018 (Figure 2). People who did not declare their ethnicity (unknown) comprised a small percentage (average = 3.2% of the total FTEs; Figure 2). European academics made up on average 20% of the total FTEs employed in this faculty between 2008 and 2018 (Figure 2). Māori and Pasifika scientists were under-represented, comprising on average 6.0% and 2.6% respectively (Figure 2). The percentage of Māori FTEs has decreased from 7.3% (2008) to 6.4% (2018), whereas the percentage Pasifika FTEs has increased from 2.0% to 4.8% over the 11-year period (2008–2018; Figure 2). However, there was no statistically significant difference between both Māori and Pasifika FTEs over time (p > 0.05). Figure 2. The percentage offull-time equivalents (FTEs) for each recorded ethnicity at university B from 2008 to 2018. Note: University B has a combined science faculty (i.e. science and another discipline). 📷Display full size The importance of department by department analysis of universities ethnicity data is highlighted when comparing the percentage of Māori FTEs university-wide and the science faculty (Figure 3). The average percentage of Māori FTEs university wide at university F was 4.7% from 2008 to 2018, whereas it was consistently lower within the science faculty (Figure 3). Similarly, representation of Pasifika academics in the science faculty at university F was much lower compared to the entire university (Figure 4). The average between 2008 and 2018 was 1.5% of Pasifika FTEs across the university whereas it was only 0.4% in the science faculty (Figure 4). Figure 3. The diversity of scientists employed in Aotearoa New Zealand’s crown-research institutes
CRI B was the only CRI that was able to provide relatively good quality, temporal data. Data from this institution indicated that African scientists made up approximately 1% of scientists employed from 2016 to 2018 and both Asian and Australian scientists have made up on average 5.4% and 5.0% respectively of the total headcount from 2008 to 2018 (Figure 5). The percentage of European scientists has increased steadily from 16.1% in 2008 to 23.5% in 2018 (Figure 5). The percentage of Māori scientists employed has also increased from 3.4% in 2008 to 7.8% in 2018 (Figure 5). Although this increase is promising, Māori remain under-represented within this institution. Interestingly, the percentage of NZ European/Pākehā employed at CRI B has decreased from 64.9% (2008) to 45.3% (2018; Figure 5). This may speak to the increasing value the science system places on international expertise, whereby scientists from overseas or with international experience are valued more than those from Aotearoa, which is driven in a large part by global ranking systems that value international staff recruitment (Stack 2016). This is driven largely by the increasing importance placed on international university ranking systems. Importantly, scientists coming from overseas will likely have very little understanding of things that are highly important within the context of Aotearoa (e.g. te Tiriti o Waitangi). Considering the data presented, urgent action is required to address this apparent selection of international scientists over Māori and Pasifika scientists. Rather than copying and pasting a blanket statement in job advertisements of empty words like the following: ‘The University of Canterbury actively seeks to meet its obligation under the Treaty of Waitangi | Te Tiriti o Waitangi’ (UoC date unknown), CRIs and universities need to be actively recruiting Māori and Pasifika scientists and hence need to consider the following questions when hiring new staff:
How is this person likely to contribute to the uplifting of Māori communities in a meaningful way?
Do they have any experience working with Indigenous communities?
What is their understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Treaty of Waitangi?
How do you see your role as supporting our institution's commitments to Pasifika communities?

In 2019, this particular CRI employed zero Pasifika scientists and 1.6% of scientists were Māori (Figure 6). The majority of scientists employed at CRI E in 2019 were NZ European/Pākehā (55.0% NZ European) and 21.5% were ‘European’ (Figure 6). Figure 6. Their data was also only collected for new recruits. We were, therefore, unable to disaggregate science staff from general and non-science staff. From 2016 to 2018 the majority (59%–66%) of new recruits were ‘NZ Europeans’. In 2017, 14% of new recruits were Pasifika whereas in 2016 and 2018 there were no Pasifika recruits. Māori comprised between 2% of new recruits in 2017 and 2018 but 8% in 2016 (data not shown)...."
My EFI partition was glitching, I don't know exactly how. But a long time ago I replaced my old SSD for Windows with an m.2 SSD. With a tool I copied the whole Windows OS from my SSD to the m.2 SSD. I guess my EFI partition was glichting due this, but I never felt any issues with it on Windows itself. When I tried to install rEFInd, command prompt in Windows (for manual installation) was a pain, it gave errors, blah blah blah. After 4 days I deleted my whole EFI partition and created a new one with a bootable USB Windows installer. In the Windows Setup I pressed SHIFT+10 for the command prompt and made a new EFI partition. When that was fixed I could install rEFInd, it finally did show up in my BIOS! (If you need help with this please PM me on here or discord: 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹#7899*)* Note: For editing the EFI partition on Windows you need to mount your EFI partition in CMD with admin rights. "mountvol S: /s" - Then I could access the volume withExplorer++(also runned as admin)
iServices did not work, including iMessage and FaceTime
I had a problem in the beginning where it would hang on the 2FA verification for my Apple ID Can't login into iCloud, hangs at 2FA So I tried fixing my En0 with this guide: https://khronokernel-2.gitbook.io/opencore-vanilla-desktop-guide/post-install/post-install/iservices When that was done it was still hanging. But iMessage and FaceTime worked after that. When I tried logging in via the AppStore it worked. So then I was logged in into the whole system. Note: I did not tell all my problems here because it can be different on some other hackintosh pc's, like I needed to generate a custom serial code for my system withGenSMBIOSand configure it withProperTreein my config.plist which was in my EFI partition for booting up my system.
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."
It was not a glitch or anything but because I have a dual boot system it gave me constantly this error when booting into macOS https://preview.redd.it/5fdvclbtz6q41.png?width=552&format=png&auto=webp&s=925b45445b14566cb9210ea0515507dc3cbba3ec This is my Windows SSD which was mounting constantly on booting macOS, so I tried to disable mounting that disk on booting, which did not work for me. So I installed the kext DiskArbitrationFixup to disable this warning. But I am just ignoring the disk in my Finder and I can't delete files on it from macOS which is really good. After all I was happy for me as a 17 years old (not native English speaker from The Netherlands) that my system worked perfectly (for how I liked it). It took me full one week time for this, but I guess my system it worth it :) PS: That background, I made it myself a while ago as a redesign for Starbucks lol :) Edit 1: My custom rEFInd GUI icons for Windows 10 and Shutdown (they were not updated for more than 4 years) For those who wants my custom Windows 10 (and the maybe ugly shutdown icon for the rEFInd bootloader) here's the download link: https://mega.nz/#!bSBQjKZA!NpO_9CefMsiMRcClAix4D11sEPtRaK8mnJ7-Fic6aE4 My Cutom Windows 10 icon (and shutdown) Edit 2: How to install rEFInd and apply a theme I did not get rEFInd install via macOS.. I tried it serval times but it did not show up at all in my BIOS. I guess it was just a stupid thing in my Windows partition because I had issues with my EFI partition like I said earlier. So this tutorial is for dual boot users (with Windows). I will try to explain how you can also do this on macOS, I guess that will also work but it did not for me due the partition.
So when you're in Windows, google for rEFInd download, and download it from the SourceForge website.
Locate Command Prompt in the Start menu, right-click it, and select Run as Administrator. This action opens a Command Prompt window with administrative privileges.
Type mountvol S: /S in the Administrator Command Prompt window. This makes the ESP/EFI accessible as drive S: from that window. (You can use a drive identifier other than S: if you like.)
Change into the main rEFInd package directory (you do this with in command promt with "CD " <(without the ""), so that the refind subdirectory is visible when you type dir.
Type xcopy /E refind S:\EFI\refind\ to copy the refind directory tree to the ESP's EFI directory. If you omit the trailing backslash from this command, xcopy will ask if you want to create the refind directory. Tell it to do so.
Type S: to change to the ESP.
Type cd EFI\refind to change into the refind subdirectory
You may want to selectively delete some of the drivers in the drivers_x64, drivers_ia32, or drivers_aa64 directory, depending on your architecture and needs. Unnecessary drivers will slow the rEFInd start process, and can even cause the drivers you need to not work or cause a system crash.
Type rename refind.conf-sample refind.conf to rename rEFInd's configuration file.
Type bcdedit /set "{bootmgr}" path \EFI\refind\refind_x64.efi to set rEFInd as the default EFI boot program. Note that "{bootmgr}" is entered as such, including both the quotes and braces ({}). Also, change refind_x64.efi to refind_ia32.efi on systems with 32-bit EFIs. Such computers are rare, and most of them are tablets. Check your Windows bit depth to determine which binary you should use.
If you like, type bcdedit /set "{bootmgr}" description "rEFInd description" to set a description (change rEFInd description as you see fit).
At this point, when you reboot, rEFInd should appear as your new default boot program. Or check your BIOS if it is there in your boot options. If it doesn't work for you, please go and search on the internet further because on the is so much more information on the official rEFInd site. So if it works, you will see a ugly grey theme with the boot options. I am using this theme: https://github.com/andersfischernielsen/rEFInd-minimal-black
Locate your refind EFI directory. This is commonly /boot/EFI/refind though it will depend on where you mount your ESP and where rEFInd is installed.
Create a folder called themes inside it, if it doesn't already exist
Clone the theme into the themes folder you just created
To enable the theme add include themes/rEFInd-minimal-black/theme.conf at the end of refind.conf.
You can edit the .conf files with Notepad++ on Windows and TextEdit on macOS If you want to use my icons for a better Windows icon (and shutdown icon) replace my icons with the icons in/boot/EFI/refind/themes/rEFInd-minimal-black/iconsfolder. !! TO MOUNT YOUR EFI PARTITION USE EXPLORER++ ON WINDOWS AND CLOVER ON YOUR HACKINTOSH !! For those who want to do this on macOS, I'll copy the original instructions so it is clearer for you than for myself. But it's about the same with installing the theme. The only thing you need to do is mounting your EFI with clover. The tutorial:
Open a Terminal window in which you'll type the following commands.
If you want to install rEFInd on your ESP, you must first mount it. The easy way to do this is to use the mountesp script that comes with rEFInd. When you run it, the script should tell you where the ESP was mounted. You can do the job manually by typing mkdir /Volumes/ESP followed by sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/ESP. Note that you may need to change /dev/disk0s1 to something else if your ESP is at an unusual location. Type diskutil list or use a tool such as my GPT fdisk (gdisk) to examine your partition table to find your ESP if necessary.
Type sudo mkdir -p /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind to create a suitable directory for rEFInd. If you want to place rEFInd on the macOS root partition, you should adjust the pathname appropriately, as in /efi/refind. Alternatively, you can use the Finder to create the directory.
Copy the files in the refind subdirectory of the rEFInd binary package to the like-named directory you've just created. You can do this in the Finder or by typing sudo cp -r refind/* /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/ in your Terminal window after changing into the rEFInd package's main directory.
Remove the files for the versions of rEFInd you're not using, as in sudo rm Volumes/esp/efi/refind/refind_ia32.efi Volumes/esp/efi/refind/refind_aa64.efi on a Mac with a 64-bit EFI or sudo rm /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/refind_x64.efi Volumes/esp/efi/refind/refind_aa64.efi on a Mac with a 32-bit EFI.
Optionally, remove the drivers directories for the architectures you're not using—/Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/drivers_ia32 or /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/drivers_x64, as appropriate. (No Mac uses an ARM CPU, so you'd also remove /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/drivers_aa64.
I strongly recommend that you remove some or all of the drivers for the architecture you are using; if you don't need them, they'll slow down the start process and can even hang rEFInd if a driver is buggy and it encounters a damaged filesystem. See the page on drivers for more on this topic. Note that Apple's firmware includes its own HFS+ driver, so the HFS+ driver provided with rEFInd is useless on Macs. Normally, you only need a filesystem driver if you're dual-booting with Linux, and in that case you need only the driver for the filesystem that holds the Linux kernel.
If this is your first installation, type sudo mv /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/refind.conf-sample /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/refind.conf (adjusting the path as necessary) to rename the sample configuration file so that it will serve as a real configuration file. (Again, you can do this with the Finder, if you prefer.)
"Bless" rEFInd by typing one of the following two commands:
If you're installing rEFInd on the ESP, type sudo bless --mount /Volumes/ESP --setBoot --file /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/refind_x64.efi --shortform, adjusting the mount point and exact path to the file as appropriate for your installation.
If you're installing rEFInd to an ordinary HFS+ volume, type sudo bless --setBoot --folder /efi/refind --file /efi/refind/refind_x64.efi. (Adjust the path and filename as necessary if you're placing rEFInd somewhere else or using the 32-bit version.)
This is the step that's likely to fail if your system is booted with SIP active.
If you don't want to reboot immediately after installing rEFInd, you may optionally unmount the ESP by typing sudo umount /dev/disk0s1 or sudo umount /Volumes/ESP. This step isn't strictly required, but if you want to keep the ESP out of your directory tree, it can be useful.
When you reboot, your Mac should bring up the rEFInd menu, and should continue to do so thereafter. If you make changes that break this association, you can re-run the bless command (if necessary, restoring the rEFInd files first). This might be necessary after installing system updates from Apple or if you upgrade rEFInd to a newer version. If you're replacing rEFIt, you may discover that rEFInd works on the first boot, but the system reverts back to rEFIt or a direct boot to macOS on the second boot. To fix this problem, you can remove the rEFItBlesser program, which is located at /Library/StartupItems/rEFItBlesser. This program attempts to keep rEFIt set as the default boot loader, but it also has the purpose of protecting the computer from launching the wrong OS after waking from sleep. If you want that protection, my suggestion is to install rEFIt and rEFItBlesser and then replace the refit.efi file with refind_x64.efi or refind_ia32.efi (renaming it to refit.efi). Used in this way, rEFInd will still look for its own configuration file, refind.conf, so you'll need to move it but not rename it. If you don't move the icons from the rEFInd package, your icons will continue to look like rEFIt icons, and you'll be missing the new icons for specific Linux distributions that rEFInd provides. One final caveat: It's conceivable that rEFItBlesser is what's causing filesystem corruption for some users, so if you've been having this problem with rEFIt, it might be worth disabling this program and not using it with rEFInd. I dont know why but I made a quick TikTok haha https://reddit.com/link/fsy48b/video/gpm5han3a9q41/player
Since this is a topic that's still generating questions, and since there have been some significant recent changes to the optimal setup, I've decided to write new guide to installing GW on Linux. This guide is current as of May 2020. In this guide, we're going to:
Use a protonified version of Wine for maximum performance.
If possible, install d9vk for even better performance.
Install uMod for using texture mods.
Install DirectSong and ALL of the bonus music.
We're NOT going to use some automated solution like Lutris. Rather we're going to do everything by hand so we know what we did in case something needs tweaked later.
Setting Up BiArch: Most people who game on Linux or use Wine already did this long ago. In which case, you can skip this section. For those who haven't:
Enable i386
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt update
Install the i386 packages for your video driver.
Install ordinary Wine, installing all recommended and suggested packages. This should pull in a whole bunch of i386 dependencies.
Getting the Steam runtime environment: Protonified Wine builds are intended to be used with the Steam runtime. I'm not aware of any breakage if you don't do this (at least not on Debian), but I can't guarantee that, and it's easy to set up anyway.
If you haven't already, install any game using Proton.
Getting Protonified Wine: Glorious Eggroll does a wonderful community service by integrating the Proton patches (plus some other gaming/performance patches) into the latest versions of Wine. It's the best of both worlds -- up-to-date Wine and Proton's enhancements.
Download the latest build from Glorious Eggroll. (At this time, the latest build is Proton-5.6-GE-2, so that's what this guide refers to. Adjust references accordingly for newer releases.)
Unzip to wherever you like. (This guide is going to call this location "." Replace references to with the actual path.)
No need to worry about dependencies so long as you already installed ordinary Wine.
Raising File Descriptor Limits for Esync: Esync is a Wine optimization in protonified builds that reduces wineserver overhead for synchronization objects, which can substantially improve performance, especially if you're CPU-bound. Esync consumes a very large number of file descriptors, potentially exceeding the default per-process limit in some Linux distros. To raise the limit:
Edit /etc/security/limits.conf to add the following (and comment out any existing reference to hard nofile).
* hard nofile 1048576
If your distro uses sytemd, then edit both /etc/systemd/system.conf and /etc/systemd/user.conf to add the following (and comment out any existing reference to DefaultLimitNOFILE).
DefaultLimitNOFILE=1048576
Setting Up A New Wine Prefix for GW:
Open a console and export a bunch of environment variables regarding which Wine version we want to use, as follows (replacing with your real username):
In the same console, specify the path for the new wine prefix. (You don't have to use this name; adjust accordingly if you use something else.)
export WINEPREFIX=/home//.wine-gw-protonGEd9vk
Specify that we want a win32 wine prefix.
export WINEARCH=win32
Create the wine prefix.
winecfg
Make sure to keep this console open. We're not done with it yet.
Installing D9VK: D9VK is a DirectX9-to-Vulkan compatibility layer. It generally offers better performance than Wine's built-in DirectX-to-OpenGL implementation. (For example, it improves my uncapped FPS sitting in my guild hall from ~220 to ~380.) As best I can tell, all of the bugs relevant to GW have been ironed out, so it should look flawless.
First, make sure that your video card/drivers are new enough that you can run d9vk. Consult this page. If your system is not able to run d9vk, then SKIP THIS SECTION.
The latest d9vk binaries are bundled with Glorious Eggroll's Wine builds, so you don't need to download them. If you're using a different build of Wine, you can download them here.
Change the working directory to the wine prefix's system32 directory.
cd ~/.wine-gw-protonGEd9vk/drive_c/windows/system32
Run winecfg again (from the same console with all those exports) and add library overrides for the eight .dll's we just made symlinks for.
(Later when we get to the launcher script, you can comment out the lines for the GL shader cache, since we're not using OpenGL for GW anymore. (D9VK will generate a Vulkan shader cache for us.))
Installing DirectSong and the Bonus Music:
Make sure the i386 version of libmpg123 is installed.
sudo apt-get install libmpg123-0:i386
Download winetricks. If you already have winetricks installed, make sure to update to the newest version.
Use winetricks to install Windows Media Player 10 (from the same console with all those exports).
winetricks -q wmp10
Run Windows Media Player 10 one time (from the same console with all those exports).
Suffer through the first-run dialogs. (Note: There's some funky, buggy behavior when you uncheck file associations (which you almost certainly don't want). You can get around it by toggling to the other tab of the dialog and back again after unchecking each box.)
Test that mp3 playback is indeed working. (Note: MP3 playback via Windows Media Player 10 was finally fixed to work out-of-the-box in Wine 4.12. Getting it to work in older versions of Wine is a headache.)
wine "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
Extract the DirectSong/ directory from the revival pack to any location in the wine prefix you like. (This guide is going to use ~/.wine-gw-protonGEd9vk/drive_c/DirectSong . Adjust accordingly if you use something else.)
Install GW as per the instructions below, then come back for the final step for DirectSong.
Run RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe (from the same console with all those exports) using DirectSong installation location as the working directory.
Run winecfg again (from the same console with all those exports) and set the Windows version to XP. This should enable GW's "use 3D audio hardware" option, so you can get the original directional sound effects that haven't worked in Windows since XP. Also check the EAX option in winecfg's "staging" tab. This should enable GW's "use EAX" option, so you can get the DSP effects that expensive soundcards provided back in the day.
(Unfortunately, Wine's EAX implementation only supports up to EAX v2, and GW uses features up through EAX v4, so you won't get the full EAX experience. There is a dsound .dll replacement named DSOAL (repo.or.cz, github) that implements EAX v4. Unfortunately, however, it has the side effect of silencing GW's music. Perhaps at some future time the bugs will be worked out.)
Note: With Wine configured to simulate Windows XP, GW will look for build templates in ~/.wine-gw-protonGEd9vk/drive_c/Program Files/Guild Wars/Templates. (If simulating a higher version of Windows, it's instead ~/.wine-gw-protonGEd9vk/drive_c/users/steamuseMy Documents/Guild Wars/Templates/ .) You might find it useful to delete this directory and replace it with a symlink to a more convenient location in you Linux user directory.
(Now go back and finish that last step for installing DirectSong.)
Unzip to some location inside the WINE prefix. (This guide uses C:\Program Files\uMod . Adjust accordingly if you use something else.)
Note: You will want to use the "start game through uMod" feature. It's the only one that works reliably in WINE.

Create a start menu and/or desktop shortcut pointing to the launcher script. Now you can start GW via the shortcut.
Updating: To update for a new version of Wine, just edit the launcher script to point to the new binaries. To update d9vk, update the symlinks to point to the new binaries. FAQ:
Q: Can I just use ordinary Wine?A: Yes, you can. Just ignore the sections on protonified Wine, the Steam runtime, and esync, and omit the export statements relating to them. If you want d9vk, you'll have to download the binaries.
Q: Can I use Proton instead of some random person's protonified Wine?A: Yes, you can, but you will need to use Proton 5.0 (or newer) if you want DirectSong to work. Change the exports pointing to Glorious Eggroll's build to instead point to the Proton binaries, and use the d9vk/dxvk binaries that came with Proton.
Q: Can I just use Lutris?A: Go ahead, but don't ask me how to fix it when some outdated install script sets something wrong or breaks things altogether.
Q: Will this work on Mac?A: Sort of... The first major roadblock is that MacOS dropped all 32-bit system libraries as of Catalina. Presently, the only option for running 32-bit programs on Catalina is Crossover, the paid version of Wine. For older versions of MacOS, any version of Wine should be able to at least run GW. So far as I know, there are no protonified versions of Wine available for Mac. There is no Steam runtime because there is no Steam for Mac. D9VK will not work because MacOS has no Vulkan drivers. (There is a third-party Vulkan-to-Metal translation layer called MoltenVK that is not presently able to run d9vk, but might be able to in the future.)
Q: GW is sporadically crashing on launch.A: This is an ongoing issue that comes and goes with new versions of Wine. I have no idea what's causing it. Just kill the zombie Gw.exe process from the task manager and try again.
Q: How can I multilaunch?A: Just make multiple wine prefixes.
Q: What about toolbox?A: Don't ask me; I don't use toolbox.
Skyrim VR SSE Update and USSEP Compatibility Patch - Test Release
Hello, this is a patch that integrates official updates made to Skyrim Special Edition up to version 1.5.97 into Skyrim VR 1.4.15 and aims to provide compatibility for the current Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch 4.2.1. I am releasing it for public testing, though so far I have not found any problems. I recommend backing up your save files. It is a binary patcher that will backup and then modify your core game files in the Data folder. Your core ESM and BSA files need to be original unmodified files. There is an optional mod archive that you can use to overwrite loose files introduced by the USSEP (only if extracted) or other mods, but using the mod without the patcher is not enough. Please see the Readme file for details on this. A big part of the changes in SSE and USSEP since February 2018 (USSEP 4.1.2a) relate to the relationship, household and adoption content. This content should hopefully be fixed and needs testing. Also, the Alduin scene in the quest "The World-Eater's Eyrie" may need testing because a script was changed in the USSEP. Dawnguard vampire transformation and content is also changed and needs testing because it is slightly adapted for VR. Aside from that, the SSE and USSEP contain many smaller changes in several areas, so only playing the game can reveal any potential compatibility issues that still need to be addressed. The Readme file also contains some technical details which may help others in analyzing or fixing any issues that may pop up (but hopefully won't) Download https://mega.nz/#!cZVEUaoB!b1tUsZmuRkBwGyGuomO6uXT6CXXaz_K7a0Ri3C7lGBU Please feel free to share any issues you run into or comments you have. Best Google Camera (GCam) and settings for Redmi Note 7, Note 7 Pro, Mi 9T and more - Guide
There are many versions of GCam out there but GCam mod by Parrt043 is the best at the moment. You don't need to root your device to install this.
Supported Devices -
This GCam and settings works on all these devices listed below, • Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime. • Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (X). • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 India. • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. • (Xiaomi) Redmi Note 7 / 7S. • (Xiaomi) Redmi Note 7 Pro. • Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. • Xiaomi Mi 9 (Only on MIUI 10) • Xiaomi Mi 9T. (It will aslo support some devices not mentioned here, Just try installing and see if it works for your phone)
Link -
GCam Link - Mega Link , Celsoazevedo - Download "PMGC_7.0.009_ConfigsVersion_V3.apk" or the latest version available (see Note at the end) .
Configuration -
There are 2 ways we can configure this, Using XML files (Saved Settings) and Manually, XML files are the easiest, has Astrophotography mode and is the best way in my opinion but if you want to tweak your own settings then Manual is the way to go. Note - Parrot mods say that the GCam works best on custom firmware such as Havoc, Pixel Experience and crDroid although i haven't had any problems with MIUI.
1. Loading XML files -
Install the GCam .apk and open it.
Create a folder named "GoogleCamera" in the main folder (Root Folder).
Create a folder named "ConfigsCamera" inside the "GoogleCamera" folder.
Download these XML files (Use chrome to download this)
Copy all three XML files and paste it inside ConfigsCamera folder (GoogleCamera -> ConfigsCamera -> .xml files are here ) See Fig. 0
Open Gcam, double tap on the black part (See Fig. 1) and Select the profile you need and tap restore. (If it restarts then the profile has been successfully opened.)
Make sure that HDR+ is enabled in the Mini settings Fig. 3 and enable Raw if you want it (Raw takes two images, one JPEG and one .DNG which is RAW)
That's it, change the XML profiles Based on your need.
AZ-Main-Camera-HDR - Good to take photos from main Camera and overall the best settings.
AZ-Tripod-NightSight-Astro - Good for Nightsight and Also includes Astrophotography, to use Astro mode you just use the Night mode but don't move the phone, it will automatically take a 1 minute shot, use tripod for best results.
AZ-NightSight-2 - Secondary Nightsight option
2. Manual Tweaking -
Install the GCam .apk and open it, go to settings and then to Advanced under photo settings.
Basic Settings (Turn On and Off the following settings) -
Show Dirty lens warning - Turn On
Save selfie as previewed - Turn On if you want selfie to be as it is shown on screen.
HDR+ control - Turn On
Hide Icon Movement - Turn Off
Use Mode McFly - Turn Off
Focus Tracking - Turn Off
Enable Google Photos - Turn On
Maximum Brightness - Turn On if you want Maximum screen brightness when you are taking a pic.
Raw+JPEG - Turn On if you want Raw (Raw is good for lightroom editing)
Store Videos Efficiently - Turn On
Quick settings - Turn Off
HDR+ Settings -
Compress JPG - Set to 100%
Quality HDR+ - I set it to 32 (I your device takes too long to take a pic then reduce this a bit)
Binary files library - default
Pixel AWB Mod - Pixel 4 XL
Correction auto exposure - Auto
Exposure compensation - set to -0.2 (The photos may be a bit darker if you use this settings but you could always increase the exposure after you take the pic, this is because it is always easier to Increase exposure, Decreasing exposure in an over exposed pic will result in a bad image)
Basic settings - Don't change
Saturation - Back camera (Set Highlight Saturation to 1.1, Set Shadow Saturation to 1.9), Leave Front camera on default
Use DCI-P3 color space - Turn On
Portrait -
Advance HDR+ portrait mode - Turn On
Disable Zoom - Turn On
Save to DCIM/Camera - Turn On if you don't want separate folders for Portraits
Under Experimental settings disable UHD 4K in “Acceleration” mode.
That's all for Photo settings, Now go back to main setting and Set both Video settings to 1080p (If you really want it then use 4k setting but it uses too much space) then set Bitrate to Auto (If you want to set the Bitrate manually then the higher the number, the better the video quality is but it will eat up your storage). You could also stabilize the video in Google photos after you take it.
That's it, Make sure that HDR+ is enabled in the Mini settings Fig. 3 and enable Raw if you want it (Raw takes two images, one JPEG and one .DNG which is RAW)
Note-
You are all set now, For you to use the Astrophotography mode your phone shouldn't move, Use a tripod or set your phone against something, Astrophotography pic takes about 1 minute. This version of GCam is the best for daylight photography but the Astro mode doesn't work on it sometimes, if you don't care about that mode then install this instead. You can share this anywhere, just credit me. I would also like to thank Parrot043 team for constantly improving and modding GCam for Mi phones. If you have any questions feel free just message me Edit 1 - The V6 was released today (LINK), you can enable Saber mode in the settings now for Note 7, it won't crash. Saber mode improves the sharpness of the image, it merges several photos to get a single quality photo, kinda like Apple's Deepfusion. Turn it on if you like it. If your device crashes then turn it off. Edit 2 - No need root for above mentioned devices and newer devices that was released recently. Edit 3 - If you are having trouble creating the GoogleCamera folder to use XML files then there is another way, Open GCAM -> Go to setting -> Advanced photo settings -> tap on Save XML config -> Type something and save it.... Now the folders would have been created, just find it and paste the XML files inside it.
After gathering hundreds of MB of log and doing some low-level debugging, I'm starting to suspect that the cause for Reinforcement Crash/Freeze is Graphics related. It goes like this:
Kismet (the scripting engine) detected that Enemy Count is too low, so it queues a Reinforcement Spawn.
Some time later, Reinforcement Spawn is triggered. Pawn objects are created.
The engine updates the timeline.
The engine draws the enemy pawns outside the play area.
The engine moves the pawns one-by-one into the play area.
Overwatch is calculated and executed.
In my playthroughs, I see the crash always happening between Steps 3 & 4. So the game probably drew some pawns WAY outside the play area, and this triggers some graphics glitch. This led me into a deep spelunking of Nvidia Profile, and gathering info from LOTS of sources, I think I have found a "recipe" for Nvidia Profile that prevented this bug fron happening. In short, the changes was:
Tweak some "compatibility bits" to match some other non-XCOM game
Tweak Ansel
Tune SLI
.... and some unlabeled options I totally could not find any references of, but I just copy from XCOM 2
Ever since changing the profile with a "fresh" one, I have played through LOTS of reinforcement waves without any crashes. Finger crossed! EDIT:
Of course you need Nvidia Profile Inspector. I find DeadManWalking's fork to be quite good.
You have to edit the file before importing. Open it up with any text editor, and change d:/games/steam/steamapps/common/xcom-chimera-squad/binaries/win64/xcom.exe to the actual location of XCOM:CS's xcom.exe. Do note that you must use forward slashes instead of backslashes.
Finally, import the (edited) .nip file into Nvidia Profile Inspector. A new profile "XCOM: Chimera Squad" will be created; it shouldn't conflict with the "X-COM: Enforcer" file because this new profile uses the full path of xcom.exe
Not a question, this is a write-up for any trans girls living in Auckland, New Zealand since when I was looking online last year I couldn't find any info
(EDIT: I AM STILL ACTIVE & ABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. I know a shit-ton more than I did 5 months ago and if I don't know something I can ask on the Gender Bridge or Trans and Intersex NZ FB groups for you. idk if this post is archived but you can DM me and I'll respond & then add it to this post) (Update 25 July 2020: Lena's HRT got through customs - only two people incl. me have ordered so far and both got through today - took 2 months. Payment is via sendmoney24.com) (Update 26 July 2020: I got progesterone, scroll down for details) so this is my experience, with as many details I can remember. i am a binary(ish?) trans woman, so obviously my experience will be different but they're apparently really good with gender diverse & non-binary folks too. I was also over 18 when I realised I was trans so if you're younger it's probably going to be very different.
I told my GP mid-April that I was trans and wanted to start HRT, she asked me for my preferred name (but actually updating my name in their system seems to be a different process that might be harder, I will ask her about it next time), and then sent in a referral to Auckland Sexual Health Services. if you're at uni, GP appointments there cost something like $20-25. something I didn't do at this point was reach out to local LGBT orgs & add myself to FB groups in retrospect I should have done this because throughout the whole process I felt really alone. either that or finding a therapist / counsellor to confide in. also ask your GP for a blood test form for your hormone levels so you have a baseline (ASHS will test them later on but you can't see it)
getting an appointment with ASHS took about 3-4 months. they will send a text to your phone 1-2 months and give you a list of possible appointment dates, then a confirmation text 1 month before the appointment asking whether you still want the appointment. spaces are really, really limited.
my appointment was in Greenlane, & with Dr Jeanie Oliphant. if you can't get a lift there look up multiple bus routes in advance, I very nearly fucked this up & missed my first appo.
in the first appointment - which like everything else is free - they will probably 1. give you a blood test form 2. ask if you want to freeze sperm 3. ask you some general questions about your sexual history, mental health background, how you experience being trans, etc., 4. discuss some possible hrt options 5. give you some forms to complete relating to fertility preservation
then they will schedule an appointment with a counsellor,. mine was in mangere which was a significantly long drive. they will make you do two appointments with the counsellor, the first 1 month after the 1st appo, and then the second a month after that. if your appointment is in the morning they might open 15-20 mins late, but maybe that was just the one time.
honestly i kind of did the 'cis baby talk' thing where i described my experience as a trans woman in the most unambiguous & stereotypical way possible to maximise the chance i'd get hrt, but in retrospect that was probably unnecessary. they're working on an informed consent model so don't worry about it i guess
you shouldn't be worried about how the counselling session will go, the office is kind of cramped & weird but it was very non-judgemental & the guy made it clear to me that the point of the sessions was evaluating mental health & managing expectations around hrt - not "decide whether or not she can have hrt". just be prepared to talk about yourself
the actual date I got the prescription for HRT was late December, so if you haven't processed your thoughts about your gender yet & you can't afford to go private then get a referral from your GP ASAP, do the processing in the meantime, & if you decide against it you can always cancel the appointment. this wait-time is shorter than other countries but it felt like a stupidly long time, especially because I hadn't found an antidepressant regimen that worked for me yet.
T-blockers: they offer you Lucrin injections, Zoladex implants, or cyproterone tablets. I went with the cyproterone (12.5mg a day), but I want to switch to Lucrin since it's apparently the gold standard.
estrogen: they offer you progynova tablets and estradot patches. they will start you on 50ug/day for patches and 2mg/day for tablets. push for higher amounts one month in, prescription guidelines say to start you on the lowest amount. with progynova tablets you can suck the coating off and dissolve it under your tongue which has 6x higher availability, but Dr. Powers' presentation said to start by taking it orally (swallowing it) to mimic the higher estrone (E1) levels (not E2, estradiol which is the pills & the patches) that girls have when they start puberty. I'm trying this
you can see the max amount subsidised here: https://www.pharmac.govt.nz/2020/02/01/Schedule.pdf. for estradot this is 100mcg day, two patches a week. for more of that, all I know is that the Greenlane Hospital pharmacy charges $55.10 for 24 (3 months supply = max they can give you) but other pharmacies charge more or less. You can google "pharmac estradot" for the pharmac cost, all the pharmacies mark up from that. for progynova you can get theoretically as much as you want, but the 2018 Guidelines for trans healthcare only go up to 6mg, but you can argue for 8mg by just saying you want to try it out - if you're young ask about the risks of deep vein thrombosis, that will kind of force your practitioner to do a mental risk/reward calculation that comes out favourably for you.
if they schedule another appointment in 3 months, your prescription probably won't last until then. Dr. Oliphant told me to text Jove the fax details of my local pharmacy or clinic to get a new prescription.
install a pill tracker alarm app to your phone to keep track of when to swap patches/take pills.
a month in ask your GP to give you a blood test. my e levels were super low & I wasn't absorbing anything from my patches (one 50ug/day patch, rotated every 3.5 days) when I placed them on my stomach, so I used micropore surgical tape I'd ordered from Aliexpress to tape down the edges securely (otherwise you get a lining of lint and hair and shit idk) & placed it on my bum instead of my stomach, which lead to less wrinkling. judging by my better mood this seems to have worked but I'm getting another test to see whether this made a difference or whether I'm just a non-responder to transdermal patches (???)
anyway this is where I'm at right now. I'm planning on switching to progynova, taking 4mg divided up through the day to start off with, and switching to a private provider. list here: https://genderminorities.com/database/medical-surgical/transgender-healthcare-providers/ on the off chance someone else living in nz looks up what the process for hrt is like in new zealand i hope this helped & i can answer any other questions edit: 15 june update with info I've collected together Progynova dose: I've been on progynova for like...4 months now. Got my dose increased to 6mg instead of 4 with absolutely no issue, didn't have to pay anything. Since I was also on boron it was more like 9mg? or 10mg? Dr Oliphant wrote a paper on trans healthcare that suggested going above this is unnecessary so I'm imagining I'll get resistance if I try to push the dose higher, but I'm planning on asking since there's no harm. Switching to sublingual: I switched to sublingual 5 days ago (and I should've done it earlier, my boobs were stuck at tanner 3.5 for a while). 1mg at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm, then oral at 10pm since I cbf. Someone recommended to crush them into powder but I found that unnecessary. Split them in two and it takes five. Pill cutters from Aliexpress are less than $4, they're a life-saver. Once you suck off the coating, they dissolve completely under your tongue in 14 minutes. The first time I did it, I swallowed a lot but it was a learnable skill and the longer you avoid swallowing the easier it becomes, what I do now is: swill water around in my mouth for 30 seconds to stop saliva production, don't put anything in and try to stop swallowing reflexively for 2-3 mins which means you'll get the reflexive swallowing over and done with, and then put the pill in and start doing ocused in-out deep breathing (I'm sure there are more tips, look up "how to stop reflexive swallow"). Since I got diagnosed with ADHD ritalin has made this 100x easier for some reason, could be partly salivation inhibition as a side effect, could be better focus and self-control. Maybe neurotypical people find this whole thing much easier. Overall changes: Okay I'm getting Boron: Obviously this is still experimental blah blah blah etc. etc., I got boron from iHerb like 4 months ago, I compared around 5-6 different sites with different shipping policies and a LOT of different brands and the cheapest per unit was [this](Now Foods, Boron, 3 mg, 250 Capsules) at 7.7c/capsule, realistically 23c a day (9mg was the point at which I got really noticeable breast tenderness w/o changing my e dose at all), currently it's Source Naturals Triple Boron since the other one is out of stock. I considered buying boron from Alibaba (USD$23/kg) which is literally a thousand times cheaper but that requires talking to people and negotiating and shit. Maybe a long-term option. If it goes well I will list the supplier I ordered from. EDIT: so according to this post, boron doesn't do much unless you're taking a lot of e already. check out their chart Progesterone: So I'm on the Genderbridge FB group (really should've joined ages ago) and there are at least two people who have managed to get utrogestan prescriptions from their GPs. A few more with progesterone creams. My GP said go to the specialists and the clinic said no. So I'm going to find someone else and if that's not possible I'll try get progesterone creams since amazon4health says 90% of unauthorised pills get caught. Not sure about vials. UPDATE ON PROGESTERONE: Oneroa Accident and medical ctr gives out progesterone. Make sure to speak to Dr Michael karetai or Dr Isla Karetai or Dr Margaret Karetai. They do phone consultations, $70 if you're not registered and you're over 18, details on their site, much lower if you have a community services card. Further update: Dr Margaret Karetai is the absolute best. If you have done the research, then she will trust you. Be clear about exactly what you want. She is very nice and I got utrogestan 200mg and bicalutamide 50mg!!!!!!!!!! Note: pharmacy costs vary a lot, ask for your utrogestan prescription to be faxed to your nearest Chemist Warehouse (cheapest option) since it's not subsidised. The cost is here: https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/CWH/media/Documents/CWNZPrescriptionPricelistNov2019.pdf right now it's $24.99 for a pack of 30 100mg pills. If you're doing Dr Powers' 200mg regimen this comes out to $600 a year. Kind of steep but this is what I'm doing until I've finished negotiating with Alibaba suppliers and getting the powder tested at a harm reduction place (forgot what it's called.) If I find a good Chinese supplier, I will do a full write-up as another post, with instructions and prices & link it here. DIY options
According to Amazon4Health, 90% of pills don't get through Customs.
You can get estrogen implants now, imported from Adelaide, there's at least one GP who does them. Ask on one of the trans FB groups. Comment for more details.
You can get injections legit if you have a letter from your GP. Comment if you're interested, I can give you the whole procedure.
The two non-prescription EV sources I've interacted with that ship to NZ are Lena and otokonoko. Otokonoko is pricier but their shipping is faster and they do refunds if it doesn't get through customs. However, they seem to only take bitcoin & other crypto at the moment which is tough since NZ's regulations make it difficult to get bitcoin, none of the major markets allow NZ. Might have changed since I last tried 6 months ago, though. DM me your results so I can add them here & expand our pool of collective knowledge
Regarding SRS and other surgeries
Orchiectomy - 100% free, and according to other people the waiting list is around 3-6 months long.
SRS - probably better to get it done privately in Thailand or something, the current 'waiting list' is 15 years long.
Breast augmentation is regarded as "cosmetic"
Regarding electrolysis and laser
If you're nearby I recommend Julie Martin for electrolysis. Electrology is kind of expensive, for her it's $90 for a 1 hour session if you can tolerate up to that much and it doesn't go that much lower. Apparently another option is combined electrolysis+laser, you start with laser, wait 6 wks, go to an electrologist and get whatever's left cleared away. Some laser places are doing a 50% discount right now, and they cheapen it if you pay for all your sessions at the same time upfront. Not sure, this might take longer overall, not sure about permanence.
I'm using a home IPL kit for body hair, brand is Bosidin.
Fools taking up arms against omnipotence. They rush head-on into Armageddon. So I shall provide them with a most glorious doomsday! The heavens will run red with blood. But in the end, as always, Thanos will stand triumphant.
Thanos was born on Saturn's moon Titan as the son of Eternals A'lars and Sui-San; his brother is Eros of Titan. Thanos carries the Deviants gene, and as such, shares the physical appearance of the Eternals' cousin race. Shocked by his appearance and the belief that he would destroy all life in the universe, Sui-San attempted to kill him, but she was stopped by A'lars. During his school years, Thanos was a pacifist and would only play with his brother Eros and pets. By adolescence, Thanos had become fascinated with nihilism and death, worshiping and eventually falling in love with the physical embodiment of death, Mistress Death. As an adult, Thanos augmented his physical strength and powers through his superior scientific knowledge. He also attempted to create a new life for himself by siring many children as well as becoming a pirate. He finds no fulfillment in either until he is visited again by Mistress Death, for whom he murders his offspring and his pirate captain. Wishing to impress Mistress Death, Thanos gathers an army of villainous aliens and begins a nuclear bombardment of Titan that kills millions of his race, and then begins search of more power in order to fulfill his goal of spreading death and destruction through the universe for his love. Note: Thanos while he was amped with the God Quarry can be found here, though some notable feats with the amp can be found marked within this thread.
Sanctuary is Thanos' signature starship, one of the most powerful starships in the universe. It comes equipped with a variety of features, including a teleportation system that can be used anywhere throughout the universe, powerful force fields, and advanced weapon systems
For I am transformed! I have left the mortal plane behind me! In truth I have risen above the mantle of godhood! Even celestial status is now below me! The Infinity Gems have given me the power of Supreme Being!
